La Silla Rota es un pequeño medio independiente que cubre la política mexicana. Como ocurre con muchas redacciones, publica bajo una presión constante y con muy poco tiempo para analizar de forma sistemática qué contenidos funcionan, por qué lo hacen y cómo esa información puede orientar las decisiones editoriales.
AURA es un sistema de inteligencia artificial compuesto por tres agentes, desarrollado sobre n8n, que conecta herramientas de analítica para generar inteligencia editorial de manera automatizada. El sistema permite entender qué contenidos están siendo leídos, cómo los consume la audiencia y qué implicancias tienen esos datos para la estrategia editorial.
En esta charla compartiré cómo construimos AURA, cómo una periodista sin perfil técnico lideró el proceso de desarrollo, las limitaciones que encontramos en el camino y los aprendizajes y resultados que más nos sorprendieron.
AURA también fue presentado en el Congreso Mundial de Medios de Noticias de WAN-IFRA, realizado en Marsella en 2025.

La Silla Rota is a small independent newsroom covering Mexican politics. Like most, it publishes under constant pressure,  with no time to systematically analyze what's working and why. AURA is a three-agent AI system we built on n8n that connects  Analytics tools to generate automated editorial intelligence: what's being read, how, and what that should mean for editorial decisions. This talk covers what we built, how a non-technical journalist led the process, the limitations we hit, and what surprised us. AURA was also presented at the WAN-IFRA World News Media Congress in Marseille in 2025.

This lightning talk introduces Suwali, Meedan's multilingual AI platform for trusted knowledge. Today's AI chatbots are trained primarily on English-language content and typically answer with confidence, even when they are wrong. For newsrooms, civil society groups, and human rights organizations, that creates a difficult choice: adopt AI and risk misinforming your audience, or skip in and miss out on the audience growth that AI can help deliver. I'll demonstrate how Suwali takes a different approach. Unlike leading LLM chatbots, Suwali retrieves information directly from a curated multilingual knowledge base built from an organization's own publications, archives, and documents. Every answer is grounded in source material and includes citations. When the answer cannot be found, Suwali simply says, "I don't know." Using a live demonstration, I'll show how this "multilingual library" model enables trustworthy AI that respects local knowledge, works across languages, and helps organizations make their expertise accessible without sacrificing accuracy or control.

What happens when investigative skills move beyond newsrooms and into communities? This lightning talk introduces the work of the Seek Initiative, a nonprofit that helps citizens, activists, community leaders, and civil society groups investigate issues that matter to them, from corruption and environmental damage to public spending and political transparency. Rather than treating people as passive consumers of information, Seek equips them to become investigators themselves. In just a few minutes, I'll share examples of citizen-led investigations, explain Seek's "10 Pathways of Investigation" framework, and show how open, transparent, evidence-based methods can help communities uncover facts, challenge misinformation, and drive real-world change. At a time when trust in institutions is declining and public-interest journalism faces growing pressures, citizen investigations offer a powerful model for democratic participation: local knowledge combined with investigative rigour. The future of accountability may not depend on more investigators in newsrooms but on millions of investigators in their own communities.

Esta lightning talk presenta el trabajo de Seek Initiative, una organización sin fines de lucro que ayuda a ciudadanos, activistas, líderes comunitarios y organizaciones de la sociedad civil a investigar los temas que afectan a sus comunidades, desde la corrupción y los daños ambientales hasta el gasto público y la transparencia política.

Quizás el futuro de la rendición de cuentas no dependa de contar con más periodistas de investigación en las redacciones, sino de millones de personas investigando en sus propias comunidades.

The status quo in many newsrooms is dysfunctional and inequitable, but how do we change that? Drawing from political philosophy and interviews with working journalists, I'll share some strategies about how people at every role and level can connect with their colleagues and push collectively for change. At a time of increasing instability and uncertainty in the field, we need to hear from everyone in our organizations to be able to respond adequately. Let's work together to make those pathways of feedback and action easier and more inclusive.

En 1997, Deep Blue derrotó a Kasparov y demostró que una máquina podía superar al mejor humano en una tarea compleja. Casi tres décadas después, ese "momento Kasparov" ha llegado a las redacciones y tenemos los datos para demostrarlo. Esta charla presenta los resultados reales del impacto de Assistant, el módulo de IA integrado en el CMS para medios Xalok, en la creación, edición y distribución de noticias. A través de casos reales, veremos cómo la IA deja de ser un experimento cuando se integra de forma no intrusiva en el flujo editorial de las redacciones.

In 1997, Deep Blue defeated Kasparov and proved that a machine could outperform the best human at a complex task. Nearly three decades later, that "Kasparov moment" has reached the newsroom, and we have the data to prove it. This talk presents real-world results on the impact of Assistant, the AI module built into the Xalok media CMS, on news creation, editing, and distribution. Through real cases, we'll see how AI stops being an experiment once it's integrated non-intrusively into the newsroom's editorial workflow.
